Library Overview
Holdings of the Lilly Library vary from a Babylonian cuneiform tablet to the New Testament of the Gutenberg Bible; from Shakespeare's First Folio to richly illuminated medieval manuscripts; and from an extensive Abraham Lincoln collection to the personal papers of Upton Sinclair, Ezra Pound, and Sylvia Plath. The library's special collections also include substantial holdings in American and British history and literature, children's books, Latin Americana, history of science, voyages of discovery and exploration, early printing and book arts, and film, radio, and television history. Free public tours and changing exhibitions, printed catalogs, and guides to the collections, public lectures and readings, and an attractive and informative Web site are all part of the library's ongoing effort to make its holdings as widely known and used as possible.
